# Introduction

> Automate Document-Heavy Workflows with AI

**Kolena** is a platform for creating and running automations powered by state of the art AI.
We call these automations **AI Agents**.
Agents are capable of understanding complicated [documents, images, audio recordings and more](/faq/supported-formats).
Tasks which are well suited for Agents include:

* abstracting legal agreements with amendments like leases
* performing extensive diligence reviews of large documents
* eliminating data entry into financial models
* drafting documents from templates

and more.

AI Agents are a collection of **Prompts**, which are instructions that guide the AI on how to process and analyze your data.
Kolena provides tools to write effective prompts as well as a library of pre-built prompts for common use cases and a means to evaluate their performance.

Agents can be connected to your existing data using our supported [Integrations](/connections) with popular cloud storage, document management platforms, and email.
In addition, Kolena supports a [public API](/connecting-to-kolena) to interact with Agents programmatically.
